Methodology: How PriceIndex Collects and Checks Prices

Data sources

• AI model prices, context windows and features: public model listings (listed prices per 1M tokens).
• Benchmarks: Artificial Analysis (AA Intelligence) and DesignArena, as published. Missing scores are shown as "—" and never estimated.
• Cloud & API pricing: each provider's official pricing page, read directly and saved with the date it was checked.

Refresh cadence

Model prices are checked up to hourly, features and benchmark scores daily, and official API pricing pages daily. Each page shows when its data was last verified.

Blended price

Rankings use a blended price per 1M tokens assuming 3 input tokens for every output token: blended = 0.75 × input + 0.25 × output.

Price-change detection

A change is recorded only when a price moves by at least 2% and at least $0.005 per 1M tokens, computed from unrounded stored values. Daily price-change pages are published only for days with 3 or more qualifying changes. Model moves come from public listed prices; some reflect provider-routing changes rather than official list-price changes.

If you spot a wrong price or fact, email support@priceindex.dev with the page and a source. We check the official source, correct the data, and note significant corrections on the page.
